Julia Parsons served as a WAVES ("Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service") officer during WW II. Throughout the war she worked to intercept German "wolfpack" submarine communications as part of the Navy's top secret Enigma program. Although the war ended in 1945, Julia did not speak about her classified duties until 1997, when the program was officially declassified by the government.

Lester Snyder served as a field artillery support officer during WWII and Korea. He arrived in Europe as the war was winding down, helping the war effort transition into peacetime. However, it was only a few years later that his reserve unit was called into active duty on the Korean Peninsula. In this audio story, Lester talks about the first time he heard about Pearl Harbor and what it was like to be whisked into active duty from the ROTC program at the University of Pittsburgh.

Alex Sopka grew up on Pittsburgh's Northside, the son of Russian immigrants.  His father fought in WW I and was granted American citizenship. During WW II, Ralph Carrington served in a P-61 night fighter squadron with the Army Air Corps on Iwo Jima. In this audio story, Ralph, who is 89 years old, talks about enlisting and being attacked by the last Japanese forces on the island. Ralph Carrington survived the war. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
